Thanks for your thorough analysis of the stadium debacle. It's just another example of a Mayor wanting to "make his mark" and claim credit for a big project. Two nights before the Tornado of 1998, Bredesen promised neighbors there would be no disruption from traffic--there were designated lots, and shuttles on the west side to get fans to the Stadium; barriers at neighborhood entrances proclaiming "Local traffic Only". No noise because of the design. on and on ad nauseaum. Two days later a Tornado ripped through and his first announcement was "The Stadium is safe and suffered no damage!" There is no substance to the claim regarding the concrete, because the mayor said so, and furthermore, photos show steel in the unfinished concrete columns. No mention of catastrophic damage to neighborhoods. Metro Historic Commission has slides that tell the true story. Traffic? Vehicles drove around the barriers and parked at will, to keep from paying high priced fees to Bud and company. Metro gave up on the barriers long ago, but the Titans fans still park wherever they want and walk to the games. Noise? the Tornado ripped up the trees that were supposed to be the sound buffer. We've spent years re-planting them, thanks to the Nashville Tree Foundation who raised millions for a 5-year plan to do so. Not the city, but Betty Brown and her group of dedicated volunteers. We're still planting trees over here. anyway, I am not a fan of a new Stadium, when we're still paying for the first one.
